My name is Pamela and I am the Founder of The Beautiful Gate Cancer Support & Resource Center Inc. Realizing the lack of community resources for women like myself who were undergoing breast cancer treatment prompted the birth of this ministry. In my role as the Project Director, responsibilities include developing and coordinating effective outreach programs targeted at those who are underserved and diagnosed with cancer. In an effort to educate the community about breast cancer and expand the services of The Beautiful Gate, much effort has gone into collaborating with several cancer research organizations and foundations, for which has been very positive. Continuous work in attempting to reduce the effects of health disparities by collaborating with researchers, physicians and oncologists who also agree that the higher incidence and rate of breast cancer in ethnic minority groups needs much attention. My experiences created a passion to act. In doing so, significant contributions to science in the field of public health and population science, in collaboration with physician and research scientists have occurred. Additionally, I believe that engaging South Florida’s minority population in breast cancer awareness events as well as providing information and education is helping to increase a sense of compulsory behavior /actions to getting breast cancer screenings.
